The area offers numerous opportunities for hiking, cycling, and outdoor sports, and boasts a much more tranquil atmosphere than the coastal towns. Parts of the surrounding area even fall within protected nature zones. The landscape is a mix of hills, gorges, and rock formations, interspersed with flat stretches of Mediterranean woodland. You would live in a quiet, rural setting yet remain within easy reach of the sea. The Baronia d’Escornalbou is often described as a peaceful enclave just a short distance from the Costa Daurada. Towns such as Cambrils, Salou, and Miami Playa can all be reached by a short drive (15 to 25 minutes). Like the other Costas further south, the Costa Daurada features vast sandy beaches, but it also boasts many so-called 'calas'—bays of varying sizes, often with pebble beaches—that tend to be more intimate than the open sandy stretches and offer a sense of tranquility even during peak season. From Escornalbou, you have relatively quick access to Reus, Tarragona, and the motorways leading to Barcelona and Valencia. For those preferring to fly, Reus Airport is nearby (25 minutes / 24.9 km). The surrounding area is characterized by small villages with a strong local identity, historic buildings, and the famous Castell-Monestir d’Escornalbou, which lends the region a unique character. Reus and Tarragona lie slightly further afield (30 minutes away); they are sister cities, yet each has a distinct personality. Tarragona, with its numerous and impressive Roman remains—such as the amphitheatre, city walls, and citadel—features spacious boulevards and a medieval old town centered around its famous cathedral, alongside marinas and beaches. Reus is more compact, boasting many examples of *Modernista* architecture and a wide range of shops. Both are lively cities, though Tarragona has a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, while Reus feels more distinctly Catalan. You would benefit from Tarragona’s Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters and warm summers. The climate here is somewhat milder than on the Costa Brava, with a longer summer season. At the same time, the seasons are more distinct here than on the Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol, yet without the extreme heat often found further south. Escornalbou also enjoys its own microclimate. Due to its slightly higher elevation (226m) and location about 15 kilometers from the coast, the air is drier and nights are cooler than by the sea—an advantage especially in summer. Its position on the eastern slopes of the Serra de Llaberia shields it from the sometimes-cold inland winds during winter.
