LIVING ON THE EDGE The eternal dilemma: buy a house in a village with all the amenities or plunge into the countryside and live with nature but also all the problems and costs which this entails? Well this home has a foot in both worlds. Set right on the edge of the beautiful village of Acequias in the renowned Valley of Lecrin, there is nothing in front of the house but citrus and olive groves backed by the Sierra Nevada Natural park. Even the street is effectively private, no cars but parking miraculously less than 10 m away and in the nine months of restoration I have only seen one dog, five cats and two people walk past. I was the first foreigner to settle in the valley, thirty four years ago, and seriously, this is one of the best located homes I have even come across. Bought for my mother-in-law, my favourite of them all, to be close to our son, she thanked me but didn't feel ready to give up her independent life in Granada. Hence the sale. This is a genuine home, a place to be with others, a place which make you smile. The entire top floor is open plan with a hand made kitchen complete with hand carved marble sink, walnut solid wood worksurfaces and retro style fridge, giant brick open fireplace, light from every angle, hand made terracotta flooring and of course, doors onto the shaded terrace for al fresco eating and first floor pool. From there you can walk up the bronzed stairs to the sun deck and its 360º view of the valley and mountains. Beneath, on the ground floor, this family home has three bedrooms with fonelic oak flooring and stone skirtings, two bathrooms, one with a big walk in shower the other ready for a soak in the bath, a wide meandering hall, utility room with sink, worksurface, hot water tank and feeds for a washing machine and finally a multiuse space ideal for working from home, a workshop, or a fourth bedroom. Lastly, this house comes with a stand alone stone and brick outhouse ideal for storing wood for the fire, bikes, skis and all the stuff we seem to accumulate. Oh, and I have preinstalled all the cabling for solar power. I am an architect, now retired and this is the last house I will design and build. I think its good, even beautiful with high quality natural materials and vivid colours. But don't take my word for it. Come and see.
